Bliss for the Needy Foundation is proud to announce a new partnership with the Sustainable Future Foundation on the Safe Schools, Strong Futures Initiative, a project tackling one of Nigeria’s most overlooked education barriers: WASH.
In rural Ebonyi State, poor Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) conditions are quietly driving girls out of school. Many schools lack reliable water, functional toilets, handwashing facilities, or safe spaces for menstrual hygiene management. According to the latest National WASHCOM data:
• Only 37% of schools have basic water services
• Only 30% have basic sanitation services
• Just 8% provide facilities that adequately support menstrual hygiene management.Up to 60% of the population still practices open defecation, pushing girls and children with disabilities out of school.
The project will transform two underserved schools with rehabilitated water and sanitation facilities, Girls’ Dignity Corners for menstrual hygiene, disability-accessible infrastructure, and community retention committees supporting at-risk girls.
We will directly reach 1,200 students, including 700 girls and 80 children with disabilities, and over 10,000 community members indirectly.
This work advances SDGs 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10 because every child deserves a school built for them.
